Sometimes, it isn’t enough to have the best metal detector when treasure hunting, properly setting the adjustment of your metal detector according to the conditions on the field significantly increases your chances at a successful hunt.
The sensitivity adjustment pad of the Bounty Hunter Discover 3300 is conveniently and visibly located right on the control panel and adjustment is made easily and simply by pressing the “+” (more sensitivity) or “-” (less sensitivity) button, making sensitivity adjustment easy and ergonomically efficient.
There are two major factors to consider when deciding when to adjust the sensitivity of a metal detector – the presence of Elemtromagnetic Interference (or EMI) and Severe Ground Conditions.
Firstly, Sensitivity Control is used to lessen or even totally eliminate EMI, and the common sources of this are powerlines, motors, certain common household appliances such as computers or microwave ovens, and devices such as household lighting dimmer switches – these can produce strong EMI that can cause the detector to beep erratically.
Metal detectors also produce their own electromagnetic fields, so it’s recommended to keep metal detectors separated by at least 20 feet to avoid EMI resulting in erratic readings when there are two or more present in the same area at any one time, such as when detecting with friends.
Secondly, Sensitivity Control is also used to adjust the detector according to certain ground conditions. For example, severe ground conditions such as magnetic soils found in some mountainous and gold prospecting areas and high saline content in other areas such as sand on beaches can cause the detector to emit tones erroneously.
In both cases, when your Bounty Hunter Discover 3300 beeps erratically due to EMI or emits tones when there are no metals present as it would when used on severe ground conditins, simply reduce the sensitivity by pressing the “-” on the sensitivity adjustment pad.
In cases when you believe that the presence of targets that are located deeper beneath your actual targets located on shallower ground is preventing you from pinpointing the location of your actual targets, then again, reducing the sensitivity will help eliminate the detection of the targets located underneath. This enables you to accurately pinpoint the location of your actual target.
Understanding these basic principles of the Sensitivity Adjustment feature of your Bounty Hunter Discover 3300 can greatly enhance your reasure hunting experience.
